***Cue Mission Impossible theme music***
dun dun dun, dun dun-dun, dun dun dun, dun dun-dun, dunnadun!
Tamika and I embarked on a mission today, and obviously it is one of mammoth proportions. What are we trying to achieve? Ownership of 50 Shades Of Grey.
Yesterday, Big W had literally hundreds of copies of the first book. Obviously, hundreds of women needing some “alone-time” with this book converged on Big W and they were sold out. Next stop? Target… KMart… Woolies… Coles… Dymocks… Second Hand book stores… everywhere from Albury to Wangaratta were sold out. It appears that there is not one single freakin’ book available in this whole area.
I don’t know anything about this book other than that it is pretty soft core po-… ahhh, stimulation. But, I am going to say that this E. L James is one happy mofo right now. School girls to librarians to grandmothers are all reading the book and the two following it.
According to someone who works in a store that sold these, this is happening more than you would think:
I don’t want to buy the books on iTunes, as that means I can read them only my iPhone which kills my eyes and is kind of annoying. I don’t want to order the books from an online site, as that can take up to two weeks to get here and I’m just not that patient. I can’t get the PDF to work on my E-Reader and I’m at the stage where I have asked for the books on a local recycle site, and offered Daniels left nut for it!
Tamika and I were ready to go on a 150km round-trip roadie to get the books – the frustration on our faces at not being able to find anything but a great empty rack must have been comical to anyone else.
According to the stores when they were rung, KMart in Wangaratta has gone through 3 pallets of the books this week alone. BigW in Wang and Lavington have gone through 1.5 Pallets. KMart in Albury has gone through 2 Pallets.
There are no copies of any of the three books in my whole area and a 100km radius around us.
I think I know why. Edward Cullen, move on over sucker. Your sparkling fairy-ness is no match for 50 Shades of Grey!
